General Data Protection Regulation

One of the biggest changes from DPA is GDPR will apply not only to all businesses inside the European Union, including the UK, but also to organisations elsewhere in the world which process the information of EU citizens. The regulation was adopted on 27 April 2016. It becomes enforceable from 25 May 2018 after a two-year transition period and it does not require national government to pass any enabling legislation, and is thus directly binding and applicable. The government has confirmed that the UK’s decision to leave the EU will not affect the commencement of the GDPR.
